If you want to see a performance so powerful that it can move you to tears , then The White Squirrel Players production of The Goodbye Song, performed at Studio 101 (Kingston College), is definitely a must see! An original play written and directed by the brilliant Katie Ganem, The Goodbye Song follows the story of a family trying to come to terms with their Father’s suicide. As well as exploring the family’s struggle, it also reflects back on the happier times they had before their Father’s death while subtly illustrating his spiral into depression.
Credit goes to Katie Ganem for writing a poignant yet witty piece. Despite The Goodbye Song having such a serious subject matter, she still managed to incorporate some humour which had the audience in fits of laughter. However, the laughter soon changed to tears as the play climaxed with the family’s breakdown. For writing such an intelligent and thought provoking script, I’d say that Katie Ganem is definitely one to watch for the future!
However, a play cannot be performed without some actors! From the get go, the quality of performance was superb with an excellent rapport between all the actors on stage. Each performer gave a strong, emotive performance with tears on stage as well as in the audience.
A huge congratulations to The White Squirrel Players for an outstanding production! Definitely a must see show during IYAF 2012!
