IYAF 2019 brings ten days of celebration, curiosity and creativity to Kingston. Our programme is packed with thought-provoking, funny, beautiful shows that tell classic stories, tackle big subjects, and transport us to different worlds.
Theatre, music, dance, comedy and visual arts – there’s a brilliant breadth of shows, all created by or for young people and featuring an incredible depth of young and emerging talent.

GROWL – National Youth Music Theatre
An ingenious take on a classic fairytale from the renowned NYMT – Growl is a new musical that tells the true story of the Big Bad Wolf. Written by best-selling children’s author Timothy Knapman this hilarious show is a great choice for all the family.
Jumper Factory – Young Vic
A collaboration between the Young Vic and inmates at HMP Wandsworth, this intimate and powerful new piece explores the stories of people behind bars and the resilience they need to face a world that moves without them.
Four very funny young women come to Kingston for an evening of brilliant new comedy. Featuring rising stars Ellen Lilley, Abbie Murphy and Katerina Robinson.
Curiosity Week – for our mini Festival goers
We’ve created a week of fun shows, activities and workshops for our pre-school and younger audiences. The fantastic children’s theatre company – Lyngo Theatre – headline our week with two shows – Tom Thumb and Jack and the Beanstalk.
Creative Curiosity Trail
Join us on an arts adventure around Kingston! Explore the world’s only Insect Circus Museum in the Market Square and follow the interactive trail as it weaves through the town.

Chickenshed Theatre has been creating pioneering, beautiful and inclusive work for over 40 years, and their latest work (L)able is no exception. Exploring the power of labels and stereotypes, this piece is an insightful look at whether we can, should or want to transcend our labels.
Emerging Dance Showcase
Curated by leading company Dance West, Emerging Dance Platform is an evening of dynamic, contemporary and exciting dance from some of London’s best young dancers.
Stage Sounds: Live Music in the Marketplace
The In Kingston stage is back in the Marketplace on the 6th and 7th July. Grab a deckchair, sit back and enjoy a fantastic line-up of great new local, UK and international talent.
The stage will be live from 12pm – 6pm on both days.

8496 Collective want to break down barriers to the art world and create exhibitions celebrating work of artists from all stages of their career. Head down to the Creative Industries Centre on Richmond Road to catch this unique show featuring work from Kingston and beyond.
So You Want To Work In The Arts
Get the inside track on a career in the arts with this series of free workshops led by experienced arts practitioners. Aimed at helping young people gain an insight into the professional creative industries, this is a great way to find out more about working in the arts.

Our Festival Opening Night welcomes our special guests Rambert School and the Ballet Boyz Youth Company to the Rose Theatre. The Gala Performance: Iyaf Talent Showcase is a vibrant showcase celebrating young and emerging talent from Kingston and beyond.
