When the Covid 19 Pandemic interrupted their rehearsals and touring plans, YTK turned to creating this documentary during lock-down, telling the stories behind Matumaini and the creation of the show.
Matumaini directly translates to “Hopes” in English. And this is exactly what this story tells. Set against a huge dumpsite within the slums, we follow an array of stories and a band of characters who have been tossed aside and forgotten by society…until music changes their lives. Watch as our characters battle against drugs, gang violence, poverty and the near impossible odds as they strive to be something more.”Matumaini” is a relevant, heartwarming story that aims to highlight the power of the human spirit.
