Sea Stories Design Competition

To celebrate the ocean theme of the International Youth Arts Festival’s Gala performance, we are launching a design competition for under 11s, with a unique prize.

Entrants are being asked to imagine a new sea creature that has been discovered deep in the tropical oceans, and the best design will be made into a one-off cuddly toy to keep. The winner will also receive four VIP tickets to our Gala Performance of Sea Stories on 13th July and the chance to meet some very special celebrity guests and patrons.

Sea Stories is the Kingston festival’s headline show featuring three theatrical tales inspired by the sea, with each carrying their own style of musical story-telling:

  • The Upside Down Sailor, based on the true survival story of sailor Tony Bullimore, featuring celebrity guest actor, Angellica Bell (The One Show), and narration by Game of Thrones actor, Robert Pugh*.
  • The Golden Vanity, a short opera performed by the Tiffin Boys Choir.
  • Sinbad Sails Again, a brand new jazz oratorio telling the story of Sinbad’s unknown 8th voyage.

Meet Tony Bullimore and Richard Stilgoe
This brand new adaptation of The Upside Down Sailor coincides with the 20-year anniversary of British sailor Tony Bullimore’s dramatic rescue. Sea Stories ticket holders are also invited to attend an exclusive questions and answer session with Tony Bullimore before the evening performance, hosted by the musicial’s renowned lyricist Richard Stilgoe.

To enter the competition:
Draw and colour your creature on the underwater frame provided and give it a name. Judges will be looking for the most creative entry, so the more adventurous and exciting your design, the better. Fill out the details on the entry form and email or post your design to us by 16th June 2017, 5pm.

The overall winner will be decided by judges: Andy Currums, Festival Director; and Kate Andrews, CEO and Founder of SketchBetter, and announced on 23rd June 2017
